Yes, they are features. At least root not allowed remote access is. You can
change that, if you need to, by editing /etc/securetty and adding the pty
numbers you want to give remote root access too. However, that's not
advisable, esspecially since you can get root access through SSH, the
preferred method, without tampering with securetty.

To get a GUI, check into VNC, which comes with RH7.2. You simply run
vncserver as the user you want a GUI for, then on the remote box, run
vncviewer host:1 (or whatever :N it is) and login and you have your GUI.
Or, you can use IE or Netscape and connect: http://remotehost:5801.

Very nice, very easy and if you stop your connection, or it gets
interrupted, you can pick up right where you left off either later or on a
different client. One word of warning, however, don't leave VNC sessions
running in the background very long...
