Colin,

I think that only if you find someone who can say "I have exactly that 
computer with the same setup and there are no problems" can you feel 
certain. The lack of such a reply probably indicates nobody is certain 
(have not used that computer setup?). Have you checked on the hardware 
compatibility list on the RedHat site?

I think the advice of trying the installation on another hard disk 
suggested by someone else is a good one. Alternatively, as you have a 
large hard disk, make some space on it available for linux (backing up 
first) and install linux initially on part of the existing drive.

Its the cautious approach I would use.
