RE: modem? Pre-installation sanity check RH7.2 on Toshiba Tecra 8100

Good thinking and wise comments. Thank you!
Uh..candidly, no. Until now I didn't realize such a list existed. I'm
heading that way now

A small digression:
I did that already and I can't start Linux at all (different story,
different problem)
I made a 4GB partition and installed Linux on there but because Win2K is
the primary OS I can't boot Linux. After substantial research I found
something which should have helped:
dd if=/dev/hda3 of/boosect.lnx bs512 count=1 to create an entry in the
MBR but I got complaints that Linux couldn't find kernel image "dd" and
no matter which hda number I tried it wouldn't play nice. NOTHING (IMHO)
should be that damn difficult, I spent 8 hours on this sad state of
affairs and eventually abandoned the attempt altogether. That's why I
posted this sanity check request because I didn't want to wind up in the
same place again, but this time with no alternative OS.

Chris, thanks for the suggestions, ****greatly*** appreciated!
One of these days I'll get an entire Linux installation running. No
install I've ever tried in over 6 years has ever totally succeeded,
however previously it was usually because the graphics card or modem on
the PC du jour wasn't recognized. This time the modem doesn't matter,
and I do believe the graphics card is fully compatible so the the usual
suspects (I thought) were absent, and the potential for success was
significantly greater.
I DO NOT want to give up on Linux in any way. I thought as Linux (and
RH) got more "newbie friendly" (i.e. larger driver libraries, less
compatibility issues) installation would become less tedious. Alas,
perhaps I am still looking at this thru rose colored glasses 'cos it
still 'aint happening. Ah well.

Kind Regards to all,
-Colin
