I am trying to upgrade my system (a Pentium 100) to
RedHat7.3. I currently have 6.0 installed.
I have a 13G hard drive, installed as my second
hard drive, which my BIOS does not support.
Ez-BIOS is installed for DOS (I also have Windows
95 installed) but I have always been able to
boot Linux by passing the geometry of the drive as
a kernel parameter to LILO.
I have downloaded the installation files to my hard
drive and started the installation program
(booting from a floppy). When I get to the
screen asking where the installation media is, I selected
Hard Drive. The next screen shows only hda1
(an 850M disk with windows95 installed). When I went
to the install log
screen there is a message reading "failed to read partition table for device
hdb: 2".
I have tried passing the disk geometry by typing
"linux hdb=1584,255,63" at the boot prompt. I have
also tried waiting for EZ-BIOS to load, going into
it's setup and then booting from the floppy. None
of this has worked. The install documentation
states that you can get to a shell prompt by
typing <CTl><ALT>F2 but this does
nothing for me (perhaps I haven't gotten far enough into the
install yet?)
Anyway, I'm running out of ideas. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
