did you make a note of precisely what output shows up on the screen before it stops the installation process? The scrolling screen with the various checks should be the first place that you look for possible causes of the malfunction.

I have just purchased RedHat 7.3 and installed it on my computer.  The installation went very smoothly.  However, after instal, when it attempts to restart the system things hang up.  It makes it to the boot process, but then something goes wrong.  I am new to linux so that's why i'm posting here.  It seems that the system starts to boots and I get a screen scroling with varius checks it's doing.  Then it stops, and all i get is a blinking cursor in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.  I am not able to do anything from here except shut off the computer and start it over again.  This results in the same as above.  I had thought that maybe it needs some time to do something the first time it boots, but I think that after 4 hours of just a blinking cursor I'm not getting anywhere.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't have a computer at the moment because I don't own any other os's.  Again, I am a newb! ie so any instructions would have to be very clear.  Thanks in advance for you responses.
