   Exactly what I plan now. I will have 4 partitions, each running one of
the variants, on the same machine. I can test them all in parallel, and will
not have to touch the OS partition at all right now.

But before converting your root fs, I think you can play about with the
new file systems on other paritions and see how you find them.
