Re: enabling dhcp hangs redhat 8.0 at boot of eth0

So I'm confused.
If you install RH 8 using a static IP, and after the install change eth0 to be a DHCP client (you might have to manually select the DHCP client when you install RH). Will that work?
What I'm trying to say is; you may have better luck changing eth0 to dhcp-client after all the eth0 stuff is installed.
I have not looked closely at the install script for RH 8, but installers will sometimes use different modules than what's later installed.

Solution 2: Buy a $20 network card which works, use up a PCI slot and make the problem go away <grin>.

I've finally boiled it down to a problem with dhcp, or at least this is the symptom.

This continues forever (or until I reboot, whichever comes first 8-).

It seems 192.168.100.1 (my local dhcp server) is answering, but the system is
ignoring the response.

If I assign a static IP address and gateway then everything works.

Any help or direction anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated!!!
