I tried with noprobe, and it crashes (=restarts) even before displaying
the "Loading SCSI drivers" screen...
Is there a way around this, or should I just try with some other
distribution ?

Try installing using the "noapic" option and see if that helps. You may
also try "nodma" or a combination of the two. The RH7.3 and 8.0 kernels
have problems with SOME hardware combinations. Once the system is up
and running with the distribution kernel, these problems go away.
