Just because it was working once doesn't mean it's working still.
Everything that goes bad has a moment in time when it changes from good
to bad.

Check connections for drives, make sure memory is seated, etc.

I'd check RAM. You can get a copy of memtest86 to try it out. There's
even an executable for windoze, called, simply, memtest, though I don't
quite understand that since it needs to run without a whole lot of stuff
loaded. (Could simply be a DOS executable; since I don't do MS.......)

Then I'd try installing something else to make sure of the CD drive,
mobo, IDE channel(s), etc.

You may also have a flaky power supply. That would show up when testing
the hardware, though it might be hard to tell if any problems found are
power-related or they're caused by something else.
