dvdrom and installing RH8.0

Is that a common problem when installing?  the dvd rom?  I tried
installing and cant get past the system notes.  I ran memtest and checked
that all hardware was connected but still cant get past the system notes.
If i disconnect my dvdrom how do i install?  I could boot from a boot disk
but i couldnt install anything past the boot cause thats my only drive
that reads cds.
