install problems

I had my machine open getting all the hardware name and numbers and forgot
to reconnect the hard drive to its IDE slot.  I then tried to install and
things went fine, went through all the system notes and the gui install
came up telling me could not find my hard drive.  so i shut down
reconnected my hard drive and tried to install.  now the first screen
(where i can select options, gui or text) comes up but when i hit <enter>
to install it freezes during the system notes.  I have a Quantum Fireball
12GB drive.  as far as i know this is compatible.  why would it freeze
after i connected the hard drive?  fyi... redhat 8
