I'm trying to upgrade an Alpha XL 300 (Digital Alpha 21164 processor)
from RH 6.2 to RH 7.2. I've got LILO running on it. I can bring LILO
up with no problem (can't find a LILO version, but it was built in
1997). But when I try to boot off of the 7.2 CD with
LILO> b sr0:/kernels/vmlinux.gz root=/dev/sr0
It tries to load the kernel but then hangs.
So I tried booting off of the kernel I already have installed:
LILO> b sdb2:/boot/vmlinux.gz root=/dev/sr0
and when that didn't work, I tried,
LILO> b sdb2:/boot/vmlinux.gz root=/dev/cdrom
One of the things I tried doing was to check to see on the DEC site is
if there was a download of SRM for Alpha XL 300, and I didn't see
anything.
Am I out of luck in upgrading this? Is the older Alpha processor just
not going to grok that kernel? One other thing, I got the ISO image
that I burned onto the CD from http://www.linuxiso.org, but that
shouldn't make a difference, should it?
=== Al
