Yes. Or windoze, or OS2, or BeOS, or anything else that works on the
machine.

Just make sure the new one is told which partitions to leave alone.
That's about all there is to it, excepting with the bootloader. It needs
to be handled by one and only one of the installs, or one of them will
need to use a boot disk while the other can use the bootloader, or both
can use a boot disk. Trying to keep 2 bootloaders synced, and trying to
make more than one write and control things is not impossible, but close
enough that it should be avoided.

You can safely use swap partitions on multiple installs. Sometimes you
can us a common /home partition (has to be a partition, not just a
directory). But that will be dependent on various things. Sometimes
versions on one install conflict with version on another install, so
some things might not work if a common /home is used. Most things won't
suffer this problem.
