Re: Red Hat 8.0 cant find cdrom (John Borges)

I have tried 'linux hda=nodma hdc=nodma" and also "linux ide=nodma" and all
come to the same issue when installing. Here's more detail on the error
that I am getting on the notebook:

(This is all obtained through alt-f4)

hdc: drive not ready for command
hdc: ATAPI reset timed-out, status=0x80
ide1: reset timed-out, status=0x80
hdc: status timeout: status=0x80 {Busy}
hdc: drive not ready for command
hdc: ATAPI reset timed-out, status=0x80
ide1:reset timed-out, status=0x80
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 64
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev=16:00, iso_blknum=16, block=32
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0

At which point the install stops and asks for the language, keyboard, and
what media to install from -- Namely CDROM or Hard Drive. Either of those
options comes up with the same result as above.

Again, the system I have is a Compaq 905us notebook, with a Radeon U1
northbridge/southbridge and an ALI M5229 IDE controller.

Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated...

Rick
