Samba and WINS

What makes a Samba Linux server register with a WINS server so that I can 
access it with \\someserver from a Win2K machine?

It was ok before, but now it seems to have stopped registering with the WINS 
server. I can do \\x.x.x.x with the correct IP address, and access the server
that way, but not by the name.

I just get "... The network path was not found ... ".
