I sort of lost faith in all modern operating systems today. Linux will
one day, no doubt be the best os out there and the easiest to use, but
at the moment, it is very immature. as for 2000 and Xp let's not even
start. they are the REASON i use Linux. i also used to use Mac os 9 and
Os X i lost faith in those too. (although os x is pretty cool - if it
ran on less that 5000$ hardware). i am trying to install win 2k and, as
i said before, i have a nice partition for it on my hard drive, but
after i installed it, and use the xp upgrade cd to upgrade to xp, it
rendered my partition un-bootable.

Any Microsoft OS believes that it owns the box. It will install a boot loader to the MBR that can ONLY boot the MS product. The only way to get around this is to install the MS product first, THEN install Linux. Have grub installed into the MBR and make sure that it knows about the MS product (by default, the RH installer will find it). The "/boot/grub/grub.conf" file will have a section like:

	title DOS
	    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
	    chainloader +1

So, when grub boots up, you can select the "DOS" option and boot XP.
You can change the "title DOS" to "title WinXP" if you want to be more
descriptive.
