Hi,
Hopefully I've joined the right forum for this question. I have installed Red Hat v8.0, & found I have a problem receiving email. During the initial installation, I used the "high" level of security with "Custom". Under the "Custom", I added "WWW","FTP","SSH". I could get to this workstation via SSH, but I couldn't receive email. So, I went back in via the gui,& added "Mail". I turned on IPTABLES service, prior to making the change under the "security level". When I viewed the status via "/etc/init.d/iptables status", it appeared to have taken the change. Yet, I still couldn't receive email. I tried to telnet to the workstation via port 25, & the connection was refused. Then, I reinstalled, with "no firewall". I still don't get email, & still can't connect to port 25 via telnet. My sendmail service is running & is accepting.
I also tried using the /sbin/iptables command to accept on port 25. Then, I checked by way of "/sbin/iptables -L -n -v", & was able to verify that port 25 was being allowed incoming access.
Maybe I'm doing something basically wrong, I don't know. I would appreciate any suggestions. My Internet access works just fine.
Thanks,
Curtis
