Don't know about this SLP, but we are using pptpclient off sourcefource
to connect a Linux box at home to a Microsoft VPN at work. If I read
your message correctly, your employer is using Microsoft VPN. If so,
that has a proprietary encryption (mppe), and pptpclient supports that.
I'm doing this under Mandrake.

I've heard the CISCO VPN stuff is very good actually but you can see my
comments below regarding VPN. The previous poster is correct regarding VPN
compatibility.

Speed is very relative to your PC speed as well. Even if you network speed
is ok your PC performance will significantly slow things up since most of
the refreshes from PCAnywhere and JVScript is executed on the PC itself.

Brad,
I couple of things you will have to know.
In order to establish a VPN connection you will have to know the Encryption
methods like IPSec, MDES5, etc. You will also have to know the public key
setup in order to establish the connection and the Encryption methods will
initiate the creation and exchange of the private keys. I've not setup RH 9
to use it's VPN. I've used FreeSwan which is a great product (A little
techie though).
If you can get the necessary information out of the Cisco VPN setups you
should be able to run through the VPN setups on RH 9 (I think it's wizard
based). If not you could try and download the FreeSwan RPM for RH 9,
install the RPM. They have good documentation on that.
The SLP was not found on the RH Knowledge base accept for the global IP port
information. On Novell's site it discusses SLP for Linux and how to install
or change the config files. It would appear that you system had or has SLP
or requires SLP to work on your corp network.
Try this link out and see if it helps.
http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/edir87/index.html?page=/documentation
/lg/edir87/edir87/data/adx281u.html
So, as I mentioned above, if you can find out the VPN setting information
you might have a chance, otherwise, you might be stuck with what you have
for now.
If you get further post again and I can try and help more.
Dan
