Brad,
Some options:
RealVNC as suggested. Quite good, but I think it's not being advanced very
much any more.
TightVNC - A pretty active group of folks using it and a reasonably
responsive user list. My favorite.
krfb - part of KDE 3.1. Accepts reservations, etc., and is based on
RealVNC/TightVNC I believe. It's certainly compatible.
x0rfbserver - if you want access to a remote Linux desktop, like PCAnywhere
give you access to a remote Windows desktop, this is the only solution I
know of.
Thankfully their servers and viewers are all compatible with each other,
so you can mix and match as you need. My dad runs x0rfbserver when he wants
me to demonstrate to him how to run his new Linux box. I can do that from
here in the office running the TightVNC viewer on a Windows XP machine.
Like Sun said - "The network *is* the computer". ;-)
Have fun,
Mark
I got a copy of RealVNC and installed that on my son's Win98 machine and my
RH9 machine. Worked slick and easy over our home network. He was playing a
game and I was able to see what he was doing. He got mad as I had more
control over his curser than he did so I didn't bug him too much 8^)
This worked the way I thought it should - one program to do everything -
connect to his machine and to view his screen. Why do I need to use the
CISCO VNC program AND the Java scripting from PCAnywhere to do the same
thing for work? Seems like PCAnywhere is just an extra layer. Is it just
the way we have it set up or is there something else going on I don't see?
Brad
