Thanks, I'm more interested in the control - yes he is just across the hall
but it seems I'm always asked to help someone CONTROL their computer and
they always insist I get dressed before I go over to their house to help
them with their computer. With this setup I can now help them and stay in
my comfy bunny PJ's and booties.

That can be controller by how he starts the server on his Windows box. I
don't believe he *has* to give you control over the keyboard and mouse.
Maybe you don't really want them if you want to 'snoop' his actions as
having control is one indication that you're there. (Please don't read too
much into that last sentence.)
On the other hand, if you're trying to help someone remotely, like I do with
my 74 year old dad running Linux, then you need control of the mouse and
keyboard to show him how to do things.
