I wouldn't take the 2x RAM rule too seriously for these amounts of RAM.
For kernels until 2.4.9 it was necessary to add swap partitions amounting
to double the size of physical RAM, but this has not been the case for
kernels since 2.4.9.
As rule of thumb it is usually a good idea to set up swap amounting to at
least the size of RAM so all of your physical memory can be swapped out,
but I am not even sure this rule applies to these amounts of RAM. After all
Anurag probably put in so much RAM to avoid swapping as much as possible.
So with a little more swap than physical memory you should be on the safe
side. You could also try what your machine does when adding just 2 or 4 GB
of swap. Guess that should work just fine, but no guarantees ;) .
Bye,
Leonard.
