Yes Rick that's right I use the external NIC as eth0. I had seen the
internal one show up as eth2 with the external card in place but
couldn't make it work for eth0 without the external card in place.
However none of those configurations allowed me to ping between
machines on the internal network regardless of my efforts.
I tried to use the internal audio too but it was not happening easily
so I put the sound card back in.
Basically I removed everything and shuffled all things including cables
to try and make things work with as few pci slots used as possible.
Like I said before.. distractions with failing drives was taking the
fore.
Any suggestions on drive types and manufacture?
