Hello Fellow RedHat(ters),
I am fairly new to Linux and my OS is RH9, and
I would like to UPGRADE my MOZILLA from 1.2.1 to 1.5.1 and
I need some help before my first Upgrade and I have a lot of questions?
Would I need to download any other programs prior to or dependencies
prior to upgrade?
How will it affect my EVOLUTION 1.2.2-5?
I would also like to add JAVA j2re-1_4_2 and would like to Mozilla to
recognize Java.
I would really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions for me.
If you do, please be detailed in any command line instructions.
Present Status of Operating System on Red Hat Linux 9
$ mozilla -v
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20030225, build
2003022516
$ rpm -qa | grep mozilla
mozilla-nspr-1.2.1-26
mozilla-mail-1.2.1-26
mozilla-nss-1.2.1-26
mozilla-psm-1.2.1-26
mozilla-1.2.1-26
$ rpm -qa|grep evolution
evolution-1.2.2-5
$ rpm -qa | grep acroread
acroread-5.08-2
acroread-plugin-5.08-2
$ rpm -qa | grep j2
$ <-- no response , so I don't have Java.
I have the following PLUGINS:
nppdf.so for pdf
libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 6.0 r79 for swf and spl
libnullplugin.so
More Questions:
What do I do with my CONTACTS and emails that I presently have?
Do I do nothing and the new version will accept these Contacts?
Do I do nothing and the new version will keep Emails intact?
Will I need to re-install Shockwave Flash?
Will I need to re-install Adobe's Acrobat Reader?
Will I need to upgrade Evolution?
Now the important question - Which version do I download from Mozilla?
- http://www.mozilla.org/releases/
Do I Download and use
1. Linux x86 Full Installer? -
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.5/mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.5-sea.tar.gz
or do I go after
2. RPM RedHat 9 with XFT and Gtk2? -
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/yum/SeaMonkey/releases/1.5/redhat/9/
Pros and cons would be appreciated.
Which RPM command would be best suitable for UPGRADE?
# rpm -Fvh newrelease-X.X.X.i386.rpm ????
using -F in lieu of -U which is better
How About plugin's -
Will I need to go back and modify my or any links (ln)?
Or Will the RPM have modified the links and stay on reboot?
Or do I go to # cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and re-apply.
and if so How would I know what links have been applied?
What would be the names or programs that will need to be re-identified
for these links?
Lastly, how do I do a cleanup or remove old/previous version of Mozilla
or I don't -
My concern would be that there may be other programs that have been
linked to this dir?
Should I use 'rpm -e mozilla-1.2.1???__' ????
This is my first upgrade and I have a lot of concerns and I like to
cover all bases before I take that proverbial leap and upgrade.
Thanks
Chris Cz
