More information, please? What kind? How much RAM. How big a hard
drive?

General guidance:
- If video is leading (or bleeding) edge, choose text install, as you
did. It's just as functional as the GUI, and you will still get a
GUI-running system.
- Install to ext2 partitions, not (the default) ext3. The installer
is a little fragile about that. You can convert things to ext3
using these instructions:
