Greetings,
It is quite some time since I contributed to this list but I have been
learning by reading it. Thank you all. Now I am back with a puzzle (to me,
at least.)
My machine is running RH7.2 with very few problems and I use the KDE GUI.
I have two CD drives, /cdrom which is CD-RW and /cdrom1 which is CD-R. If I
put a data CD, such as the source code CD's from my RH7.2 set, in either
drive both of them mount automatically and display the directory for me.
However if I insert a music CD in either drive both drives light up and
there is some action on the hard drive but no music. If I open the CD
player (using the KDE multimedia tab) and click "play" it identifies the
play time of the recording, identifies the track it is playing and starts
indicating the elapsed time. But no sound. I have the volume on Kmix, the
CD player and the actual loud speakers at full bore and get assorted clicks
and pops like normal background noise but no music. I know the CD plays
music on other players (including the one on my "other" machine.)
Can anyone suggest how to fix this, please?
Cheers
Ken
