re: post install fedora core won't switch to kde....

I just completed successfully the install of fedora
core, but I am unable to switch to kde as default
desktop. I followed the instructions to use the
System-->desk switcher routine, which advises that although the desktop default has been altered, no action will be taken until reboot, but when I reboot, the same redhat icons appear, not the kde desktop.
Similarly, I am unable to remove the password requirement, though I adjusted the settings as root, not as user. Perhaps the problem lies with my
installation, since I deselected 100% of the gnome
software, or thought I did, until I sought to configure my usb printer, when, as if by magic, the GNOME!!!! printer installation program appeared, so obviously I have been unsuccessful in eliminating the odius gnome. Everything WORKS fine--sound card, printer, and ethernet, but Fedora, at least as I installed it, with gnome ostensibly eliminated, will neither permit me to configure the desktop as I wish nor offer ingress and egress gracefully as I desire. Perhaps I need to reinstall the whole operating system, and only remove gnome AFTER I have begged redhat to allow me to configure my computer the way I want? Why is it called fedora, it seems to me to be identical to my redhat 9.0, apart from a screen showing the word fedora for an unpleasantly long duration? One of my (many) error messages even stated explicitly: "red hat 9.0". regards, Sol
