Re: post install fedora core won't switch to kde....

I just completed successfully the install of fedora core, but I am unable to switch to kde as default desktop. I followed the instructions to use the System-->desk switcher routine, which advises that although the desktop default has been altered, no action will be taken until reboot, but when I reboot, the same redhat icons appear, not the kde desktop. Similarly, I am unable to remove the password requirement, though I adjusted the settings as root, not as user. Perhaps the problem lies with my installation, since I deselected 100% of the gnome software, or thought I did, until I sought to configure my usb printer, when, as if by magic, the GNOME!!!! printer installation program appeared, so obviously I have been unsuccessful in eliminating the odius gnome. Everything WORKS fine--sound card, printer, and ethernet, but Fedora, at least as I installed it, with gnome ostensibly eliminated, will neither permit me to configure the desktop as I wish nor offer ingress and egress gracefully as I desire. Perhaps I need to reinstall the whole operating system, and only remove gnome AFTER I have begged redhat to allow me to configure my computer the way I want? Why is it called fedora, it seems to me to be identical to my redhat 9.0, apart from a screen showing the word fedora for an unpleasantly long duration? One of my (many) error messages even stated explicitly: "red hat 9.0". regards, Sol

When you log in again, try clicking the "session" icon at the bottom of the screen and select KDE BEFORE you enter your password and hit ENTER. You should come up in KDE.

Keep in mind that many of the tweak tools default to their Gnome-based
forms. They will work even on the KDE desktop. You have to use the
KDE-based tweak tool specifically unless you edit the kapok out of the
default menus.
