Kasia,

It sounds to me as though the two IDE channels are using the same IRQ, 
which they should not. Have you had any operating system loaded and 
working on this computer before (with the drives and CD/DVD that you 
presently have)?

Normally ide0 would use IRQ 14 and ide0 would use IRQ 15. As a first 
step, I suggest you have a  look in the BIOS on your computer and check 
that each IDE channel is on a different IRQ.
