I am trying to install RH 9.0 Professional workstation (purchased from
Best
Buy) and I am running into 2 problems. The first, the program will not
install unless I run linux mem=384M. I then change to LILO and add the
mem=384M as an option. I have never had to do this on versions I have
downloaded in the past. Then once I do get it loaded it will not
detect my
network adapter. I have tried manually to install it but it will not
activate. It says it can't find it. I am using a Dell 8100 with 512
M of
RAM and a Xircom PCMCIA card. What am I doing wrong? I thought by
buying
this ligetimate copy that everything would work fine. Please help or
point
me in the right direction. Thanks.
Bob,
What error do you get without the mem=384M option? If it is a signal 11
then you might have some bad ram above 384M. In this case try running
memtest86 from www.memtest86.com.
There are a collection of installation issues that may help at
http://www.rhil.net/docs/rhil-guide.html and there are some references
somewhere specifically on installing RedHat on a laptop (I don't have
one so I don't know the reference, a google search should reveal it).
