Re: samba password

You need to add whatever linux account you want to use to the Samba password file.  Run /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a username   Then run it again without the -a to change the password.

I have installed samba on my linux machine and have been able to view the shared folder thru the search computer function on my win2k machine. when I try to access the folder, it will ask me for a username and password.
I have tried entering all the registered users on my linux box, incl. root, but to no avail. I have also registered a user in the linux server similar to my win2k machine's logon and still it doens't work.
what username and password is it asking for?
