Been carefully in questions about the kernel ..?

Please, could someone tell me which files / dirs i could delete, after 
'kernel-update' (2.4.18-19.8.0) seems ok. May be i've found these files 
in '/usr/src/...', '/boot/..' and '/lib/modules/...'. I am so carefully, 
cause in the past i have tried to update the kernel by myself, with 
different descriptions and no success!
May be a member of this list knows also an internet side which declares 
or show a way how to update (manual) a kernel in a "Linux-RedHat" system?
