Cannot add a password for root

I am installing RH8.0 from a NIS share, booting from a floppy disk. I can
successfully access the ISO's and the installation progresses fine until it
comes to the point to enter a password for root. The program will not let
me access that field although I can add a user account . The "Next" button
is greyed out, as well. Anyone have any ideas how I should proceed? What am
I missing? I've tried writing these ISO's to CD but keep wasting CD's with
CRC errors.
