Please can someone tell me how to switch off

telnet?

I have not got the
service running, but can connect from my other pc
through telnet. can i
use my hosts.deny file to stop this? what would i
put there?

That will disconnect him from the service, Walter, but he wants to disable it entirely.

Thanks Rick and I have since read and understood from
his continous and frustrated post (even from the
initial one) that this is what he wishes to
accomplish. You being a veteran of newsgroups\mailing
list know its often hard to determine with any
frequency (what the actual intent is) and not apply a
band-aid answer. Error on the side of caution, etc.,
etc. It reminds me tremendously of another cousin OS.
;-)

Heheheheh! Reminds me of MANY, some from M$, some from IBM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Senior Systems Engineer rstevens vitalstream com - - VitalStream, Inc. http://www.vitalstream.com - - - - "I understand Windows 2000 has a Y2K problem." - ----------------------------------------------------------------------
