Ok, so now I have corrected the local route to point
to my eth0 IP. Still doesn't even ping.

I am absolutely certain that there is no other network
adapter on this laptop. I have had it for ages now
with Windows 2000 on it and there were no "unknown"
devices in it. Now I have Win 98 (since it takes less
space) and it too shows up only the one card. Both
2000 and 98 agreed on the MAC address. RHL differs.
There was a post by Tony Dietrich who felt that this
could be due to a bug in the tulip.c driver. I am
trying to see if I can find some thing more on this,
though I am certainly no Unix guru.

Yes, that is indeed the card with the wrong MAC
address (or at least shows up different in Windows!).
