Fresh Install of RH7.3 killed X Windows

I have just done a fresh install of 7.3 on a computer that use to have 7.1
installed. Under 7,1 everything worked nicely, I had the GNOME environment
up and running, and it was bliss. *I mostly use the CLI, but I like pictures
from time to time!* The I wiped the system, and decided to install 7.3,
because this comes with wine. Now, my GNOME doesn't want to be my friend.
I've configured everything correctly, but it doesn't want to work.

If I decided to install 7.1 and then UPGRADE to 7.3, would that leave the
system in the same condition as it is now? I don't exactly have an hour to
waste drinking coffee, I already done that today with the 7.3 install :)
