The only other thing to mention or that immediately comes to mind is that M$ SMB originally used plaintext passwords. W2k and NT 4.0 (SP3 and higher)require encrypted Samba paswwords. Have you IT dept check this and if this is the issue, you can edit the Windows registry to use plaintext passwords or configure Samba on your Linux system to use encrypted passwords.
