installing on a Gateway 500

I have atemted to install RH8.0 on my Gateway 500.
This comp. uses the Intel 845 chip set and of course
there was no current driver with the RH package.  I downloaded
a beta driver from the xfree86 site (I now have video) but I can't get KDE or Gnome
working.
