Not a clue.
What is the loop device? and what is it used for? especially in
context with mount?
loopback device. it treats a file as a block device.
bacically, allows you to mount a file system image in a file (like the
iso image form mkisiofs, the Red Hat CD images you can download, or the
boot floppies in on the first installation CD).
these have a used by of zero. Might this be a hint?
I don't think so. that's normal setting for CDR/RW drives.
Once I removed the offending CONFIG_SCSI_SIM710 causing my modules
build to fail I was able to install the rawhide SRPM. So I tried the
2.4.20 from kernel.org - it also compiled in gcc 3.2-7. Running it now.
Red Hat has a lot of patches. Look at the spec file for the kernel SRPM.
They may not be important to you though.
Does the kernel.org source have trouble with the SIM710 driver too?
Does it boot without and initrd?
