I am using a 56k USR, I don't know if it's a sportster due to the way I had to
physically attach it (it's plugged into the unrecognized winmodem and it's
way back there under my desk).
When I installed it, I ran the internet configuration wizard from the KDE gui
menu and then just followed the directions, inserting my ISP's phone number
and letting the tool select generic and/or default settings on the actual
modem settings and it dialed in -- just like that.
