I use fetchmail and Evolution but have set it up very differently.
My local (user) .fetchmailrc is as follows:
set postmaster "xxx" #(xxx is my user name)
set bouncemail
set no spambounce
set properites ""
poll yyyyy # yyyyy is a pop3 server on my local net that in turn
accesses my ISP
proto pop3
user 'my ISP username' there with password 'my ISP password' is 'xxx'
here
I then set Evolution as follows:
Receiving Mail to 'Local Delivery'
with path /var/mail/xxx
Receiving options: Check for new mail every 1 minute.
I use a SMTP relay on the firewall machine.
Finally I let cron run fetchmail every few hours using xxx as user. If
I want to get truly current I just run fetchmail from the desktop. Note
that this works fine for me. I use another linux machine as a firewall
and connect through a 56K modem. Even with all these layers it is
virtually 100% reliable. My mail is here when I am.
All that being said, I would use sendmail if I could figure out how to
configure it. I'm just not willing to spend the time since this works.
