Hello,
I recently upgraded my computer to a P4 2.4 GHZ machine using an Asus
P4G8X Deluxe motherboard. The motherboard has a SI 3112 Serial ATA
controller. Anyway, when I stick in my boot disk, it errs out with
the message
Cannot open root device "" on xx:xx
Please append the correct root= message
I've tried different floppy disks, and I've tried the bootdisk in
another computer where it works, so I"m fairly sure its not a bad
floppy. I think the problem is that there is no support for this disk
controller in the kernel. I don't have any blank CD's and it is 4am
so I can't try a CD installation(and I prefer ftp installation).
Do I have to create a kernel with the right support and create a Red
Hat boot disk with this kernel instead of the one RedHat provides? Or
am I missing something? ANy help/assistance is much appreciated.
Neal
