We've seen this come up on the list a few times, but I don't know that
the cause or definitive solution has been identified.

Are you booting to runlevel 3 (text mode login screen) or runlevel 5
(GUI login)?

IF the former, try running

switchdesk GNOME # or KDE, if you prefer

If the latter, click on "Session" at the bottom of the screen and see
if GNOME or KDE options are there. Select one of those and log in.

If none of that works, try your install CDs again, but select
"Upgrade" and make sure that GNOME and/or KDE packages are selected.

Let us know what works. If a fix is found, its place in the FAQ is
assured.

Cheers,
