Hi Mark,
I used to run Seti dedicated 24/24 (no graphics) on my i686, 2.4 GHz
machine at home. I did those 147 WU in a just a couple of weeks. I had
to do some 'tuning' to get that speed. My first Seti WU took 18 hours
to process, finally I managed to get it done in 2h45'. My only fear was
about over-heating the CPU. My computer is in a closet, with poor air
cooling. I used to keep the door open, but one night my cat bumped to
that door, so the next morning the cooling fans were desperately blowing
like hell. To my relief, I learned that the CPU's protection would shut
it down at 65 °C. (I hope that's true?)
I also tried to get Seti installed on our 2000 PC's LAN in the company
were I work. The management didn't like the idea (these guys are both
paranoid and bone-headed).
OK, I'll give Seti a try under Linux one of these days. (I wonder if it
would run faster than the Windoze version)
I'll keep you posted.
Have a nice day and week-end.
Albert
