Re: Help needed with LinuxConf reinstall

Hi,

I am having trouble with this.

There seems to already be a linuxconf file 1.27 or similar name I think that came with RH8 altho not listed anywhere. A message came up to that effect when I first tried to install the gnome package below first.

I downloaded the two newer files from their site are..

linuxconf-1.30r3-1.i386.rpm
gnome-linuxconf-0.65-1.i386.rpm

and I saved the gpg key to my HD

The correct sequence evidently is..

download files from site
save public key to HD
import public key
install package linuxconf-1 etc
install package gnome-linuxetc

However,

I goofed up and didn't import the key first. This I think locks the program from working - maybe I'm wrong there altho' it doesn't work!

I imported the key AFTER I installedthe progs.

I did see the Linuxconf name in the Extras/System Settings/ menu without an icon but when clicked did zip.

I then tried to uninstall both of the rpm's but they wouldn't delete.

When I went to reinstall them, it said they were there.

I used rpm -ev thefullname with the 386.rpm

Summary is.. I guess I need to..

1. Uninstall both new rpms
2. Import gpg key
3. Install new linuxconf-1
4. Install gnome-linuxconf

Any help by one who really knows would be appreciated.

Do NOT use linuxconf. It is severly broken and has been since the old 7.0 days. RedHat no longer distributes it. It will, I absolutely guarantee, screw up your system badly.

If you must have some sort of admin tool, stick with webmin. It doesn't
have anywhere the problems linuxconf has--even the latest versions.
