There are quite a few differences that might be causing your problems.
Everything being compiled with GCC 3.2 on RH 9 as compared to GCC 2.96
on RH 7.2. Different versions of GLIBC. NPTL support with RH 9.

Try booting with the option "nosysinfo" to disable the NPTL support and
see if that helps at all.
