Re: DHCP in a Windows 2000 domain - Solution found!

Hi list,

I have found the solution to my problem with
registering my hostname with my Windows 2000 DNS
server after obtaining an IP from my Windows 2000 DHCP
server.

I did it by using a client made for embedded systems
called udhcp. When I pass the hostname to this client
as a parameter, it gets accepted by the DHCP server
and passed on to the DNS server. So my problem is
solved!

It would be even better if someone could tell me how
to automatically call this executable when the laptop
starts up so that udhcp is the client daemon and not
the RHL9 default.

Thanks for your help.

Ajit

P.S. I wonder if the problem was that my laptop was
not sending the hostname info to the server at all? I
have RHL9 and I have the line DHCPCDARGS = "-H" in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 as suggested
by Rick to force my laptop to accept whatever hostname
the DHCP server throws at it. Any way of checking if
my laptop is actually sending hostname info to the
DHCP server?
