Detailed startup logs?

Something funny that I noticed. In my RHL9 laptop when
I boot it up, it gets DHCP information from the DHCP
server except for registering the name (but that's a
different story). Now since I didn't manage to
register the name I want to see if it will do it if I
make it renew the IP. For this I do ifdown and then
ifup. ifup does not get DHCP info from the server - it
fails. If I do service network restart also it does
not get the IP info. After that when I reboot I do get
the DHCP info.

I noticed that both ifup and service network restart
use the ifup script (I put an echo statement in ifup).
Is it possible that RHL9 uses some other script when
it starts up?

To check this out, is there a detailed log that is
generated during booting? Or is there a way to turn on
detailed logging during startup?

Thanks,

Ajit
