Testing Video Modes in RH9

Hello,
Can you tell me how I can test various video
resolutions with RH9? If I change the res to be too
high (e.g. 1024x768 at 16 million) it says "video not
supported and I don't know how to get it back? Text
mode doesn't show up either (ctrl-x at the first
redhat screen) It should do what windoze does, where
it gives you 15 secs before changing to the new
resolution. Can someone tell me how to change the
video before the boot?
