Using my ethernet card

I am having problems using my ethernet card.  This is an onboard nForce2 card, I downloaded the nVidia drivers from their website and I see the card in the Network settings Hardware list.  But when I try to activate it, I get this message: 
"nvnet device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initalization"
Any ideas what I can do ???
