RH9 FTP-install problem

Hello community,

I am trying to install RH9 using FTP on an Omnibook 4150 with no cd-rom, but it fails after loading "/Redhat/base/hdlist", saying it can't read the header-list.

At this point ALT-F3 reports (repeated six times):
* readHeaders(): exception content-length getting content-length
* File ftp://192.168.5.106/readhat9/RedHat/base/hdlist not found.

I'd be truly thankful for a good pointer to this. I've scanned all the previous messages prior to posting.

PS. Earlier I installed RH8 on the same laptop, using the same installation-scheme, and that worked like a charm. Unfortunately I really need RH9...

;--------------------------------------------------------------

Installation steps:

0) I've made sure md5sum checks out correctly on "shrike-i386-disc1.iso" and expanded all three iso's to my ftp-servers redhat-directory.
1) I boot the omnibook from floppy, select FTP-install and inserts the pcmcia driver disk. After confguring network-support, I enter IP and path to my ftp-server.
3) I can see that "\RedHat\base\netstg2.img" gets downloaded from my ftp-server (!)
4) I get the Redhat welcome-screen on the omnibookm, continues forth and choose to partition automatically.
5) To be sure, I've also tried only using ext2 filesystems...
6) After a thousand other selections, it tries to download "/Redhat/base/hdlist" from the ftp-server. The server repetedly reports 77824 bytes being downloaded. To make sure, I've checked that all 9728936 bytes of the file can be downloaded successfully using a third computer running Windows.
